Choosing a colour theme for your wedding is quite important to establish early on in your wedding planning. It drives a lot of decisions, and can even impact your choice of venue. Most venues are fairly neutral and take on any colour theme you choose, but some more established venues may have an existing style and décor that may not sit right with the theme you want.
It also impacts on the selection of wedding party outfits, floral choices, invitations, the cake, table and venue décor. For us, it was a natural progression for us to choose a deep, dark red, ivory and black theme for our special day. It’s a colour we both like, and we knew we didn’t want an overly feminine theme for our wedding, as it doesn’t suit both our personalities.
I’d seen this floral pin fairly early on in the wedding planning stage, and Bobby loved it too so without too much further discussion we decided that we would have those colours in mind for our wedding. I love roses and was inspired by the bouquet design along with cala lilies and the black band on the wedding dress.
We’ll do a fuller post on various other wedding colour themes and palettes, but for now here’s a few pictures of the details from our day.
So when Suze and I started this blog, we had already been inspired by so many blogs – mostly wedding related!! I was married to Gary in August 2012 and Suze married her Bobby in August 2013. My favourite blogs at the time were LoveMyDress, RockandRollBride and TheEnglishWedding. These blogs have just got better and better so if you’re planning a wedding, check them out!
I was beyond excited to find that The Wedding Reporter published our wedding report on her blog here and Jodie was kind enough to blog about my hair and make up just a couple of months ago here, allowing me to indulge myself in memories of my special day all over again.
With such an amazing team working on our big day, we were thrilled with the results and it wouldn’t be right to not tell you about it!! So, watch this space as both Suze and I will be writing about our weddings soon – on Wedding Wednesdays! For now, I’ve included one of my favourite photos that I love to look at to remind myself that I was glamorous once – even if just for one day!
My husband tends to go all out on a new hobby and will buy and request as presents all of the bits and bobs required to kit himself out for said new hobby. I admit, I do chew his ear off a bit about how much money he is spending, and roll my eyes whilst doing so because he soon moves on to another hobby! I didn’t roll my eyes when he said he needed a good camera so he could learn more about photography though. He bought a Canon 60D and over the years has collected a nice bundle of accessories to go with it. I’ve always loved taking photos and I have been dying to get my hands on this camera but haven’t had any technical know-how to do so……until NOW!
Gary, The Husband, gave me a whistle stop tour of his camera as I signed up for the Makelight Workshops. It’s an online course delivered by the lovely Emily Quinton and I’m so grateful to Franky, of Love Audrey, for recommending her and the course.
I must say I am loving it! I have learnt so much in almost four short weeks and my head is brimming with inspiration. All I need to do now is find some time when I’m not working or chasing after a toddler to grab the camera and take some more photos!
Here is one of the favourite images I have captured so far. I have so much still to learn but I am proud of my progress. Please feel free to follow me on Instagram @clare_gcphotography (a company name invented by my husband some time ago for our pipe-dream photography studio!) to see my other photos and how I’m getting on.
In the run up to my wedding I went a bit pinterest mental. It’s a lovely place for ideas, inspiration and pretty things and none more so than the wedding pins. I’d been wondering for a while what to do … Continue reading →
