Oscars Style 2015

rosamund-jennifer-jamie

Wow! What an Oscars! With empowering, inspirational acceptance speeches and the #askhermore movement, the focus was on the talent on the red carpet, but of course I LOVED the glam at this years awards. My top three dresses this year go to Rosamund Pike (yes! at last!) in Givenchy, Meryl Streep’s new BFF Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab and Jamie Chung (Big Hero 6) in Yamina Couture.

marion

Marion Cottilard oozes sophistication in this unconventional Dior Couture, pairing her hair and makeup wonderfully with this dress.

all black errrthing

I loved seeing all black errrrrthang on the red carpet this year, particularly Kelly Osborne’s Rita Vinieris dress – this is exactly how short length should be worn on the red carpet! Margot Robbie was sleek in Saint Laurent, Sienna Miller in a midnight blue Oscar de la Renta gown, and Cate Blanchett in a slinky Galliano dress with stunning turqoise necklace.

nude

Nudes were also a strong look on the red carpet, with Oprah looking outstanding in this Vera Wang dress. Catt Sadler represented all the glitz in this Charbel Zoe dress, while Zoe Saldana only let down this beautiful Atelier Versace dress by her unkempt hairstyle. Jennifer Aniston, shimmered in Versace.

white glam

Hollywood glam does not get any better than with these ladies all white gowns. Jenna Dewan-Tatum is absolute perfection in this Zuhair Murad dress, and that belt is divine! Faith Hill is laid back elegance in J Mendel, Zendaya is the breakout star on this red carpet in old school glam Vivienne Westwood. Lupita Nyong’o has gorgeous pearly layers in this Calvin Klein dress, while Genesis Rodriguez (Big Hero 6) shows how a pin up waistline should look in another Vivienne Westwood stunner.

red

These red dresses are perfection! Rosamund Pike (yes, she’s featured twice, she deserves it) and Guilina Rancic (in Mireille Dagher) are nothing less than stunning in embroidered red gowns. monochrome

As always, I loved these contrasting monochrome styles, perfectly complimenting these ladies figures. Patricia Arquette is elegance in Rosetta Getty and Reese Witherspoon in chic Tom Ford.

no label

These ladies represented unconventional colours and textures. Anna Kendrick in fairytale Thakoon, Emma Stone, in an unusual coloured Elie Saab gown, Naomi Watts looked fresh in this hidden bandeau Armani Prive dress, while America Ferrera paired her accessories beautifully with a complimenting ombre Jenny Packham dress. Keira Knightley has floral graffiti maternity style locked down in this sublime Valentino dress.

contrast

Perfect pastels and pretty silvers are shown here in these lovely gowns. Gwyneth Paltrow’s blush pink Ralph & Russo dress with pretty rose detail has a wonderful femininity, as does this simple pale yellow Romona Keveza dress. Anna Faris continues Zuhair Murad’s strong presence on the red carpet, but her hair does let down this look. Felicity Jones is ballroom perfection in this Alexander McQueen dress.

not good enough

Unfortunately, these ladies were not quite on point with their style this year. Laura Dern looks weighted down in this Alberta Ferretti dress, and Rita Ora’s fishtail and gaping neckline Marchesa dress looks cumbersome to wear. Scarlett Johansson’s Versace dress is a stunning colour but the statement necklace detracts from its design. Her hair, is fab though. I was soooo disappointed to see Best Actress winner Julianne Moore in this drab drop waisted Chanel dress after her superb dress at the Golden Globes. I get the feeling Nicole Kidman’s Louis Vuitton’s dress looked better in person, the iridescent sequins and odd red belt seem to glare in the photograph. Jessica Chastain’s cowl neck Givenchy gown sadly looks dated.

neckline

These necklines are not a good look on these ladies, Karolina Kurkova is a little long in the chest for this strapless Marchesa dress, and her hair does not compliment the style. Octavia Spencer’s off the shoulder Tadashi Shoji dress is beautiful…but only from the waist down, flattering her shape and with a gorgeous embroidered train. Viola Davis unfortunately looks stiff in this plain Zac Posen dress, and the necklace does not sit right with it.

eeeeeekk

Lady Gaga’s arms can’t even sit right in this custom Azzedin Alaia gown, and those red gloves are just…wrong. Solange Knowles demonstrates why polo necks and long sleeves should never be worn on the red carpet in this Christian Siriano trouser dress. Yes, trouser dress. Kerry Washington looks more suitably dressed for bridesmaids duties in this twee top and skirt combo by Miu Miu. Lorelei Linklater brings a more trashy element to the red carpet in this Gabriella Cadena thigh split dress. Chloe Grace Moretz is swamped in this overwhelming Miu Miu dress.

boys

Finally the boys also represented some style at this years awards, and I adore men who ain’t afraid to avoid the traditional black tux. Eddie Redmayne in midnight blue Alexander McQueen, Jared Leto in pale lilac Givenchy, Davis Oyelowo in deep red Dolce & Gabbana and Ansel Elgort also rocking the midnight blue Prada. Well done boys!

What did you think to the style this year? Agree or disagree with my thoughts? Would love to hear! Overall I think the glam was on point.
